Who would be the audience for your media
product?
The
audience for the opening sequence is aimed at people aged 15-21, in other words
the younger audience. The characters that are played in the opening sequence
gives evidence to this point due to the actors / characters being young. This
enables the audience to be engaged to the extract considering they can relate
and understand the characters as they are around the same age and part of the
younger generation, for which their expectations and needs will be achieved seeing
the characters will perform those roles. We have chosen this audience as we
want to go against the stereotypes of drama/thriller (A form of diversion) which consist older adults
who don’t necessarily relate or engage the younger audience. Also, knowing we
ourselves are young, we were able to construct an extract that will best suit
the younger audience, knowing ourselves have had many experiences for which
other young audiences can relate to, can construct an opening sequence that
will appeal to them.
Looking at the hyperdermic needle, the media have 'injected' large masses of dominant media ideology in to the minds of consumers who consume these media products. The hyperdermic needle have formed 'survivors' who are those who want security and like routine hence, the majority of our audience would be those who are aware of the conventions/stereotypes of a thriller/drama as the young audience in our society, are easily manipulated by these media ideology. We therefore follow some of the stereotypes that have been injected into their minds, in order for our product to appeal to them.
